27 March - 2 April 2023 is Autism Awareness Week. Around the world, activities are taking place to celebrate and raise awareness of autism and the role it plays in a vast array of human neurodiversity. As an academic, I have a keen interest in autism and the role of technology in the lives of autistic people and those around them. More personally, autism features strongly in my family and friendships and I am blessed to know and love many autistic people. Over the decades, society's understanding of autism has increased. It is wonderful to see the pride many young children feel in their diagnosis. Women and girls, however, a far less likely to receive an autism diagnosis and this can have significant consequences for many. To mark the week, I feel compelled to share this video. It is long at 1 hour and 15 minutes, but if you have the time, it is perhaps one of the best videos on the subject and is well worth a watch.
